How it works
The catalog only contains models that have been checked, cleaned, and released under a real public-domain license. Every asset page shows a License & provenance card, so you always know where a file came from and what you're allowed to do with it.
Where files come from
Assets are created by the people making FreeCatalog and by contributors who release their work as CC0. Before anything is published the source file, creator, and license dedication are recorded and shown on the asset page — never hidden.
What we check before shipping
Each model goes through a manual review: geometry is inspected for broken or non-manifold surfaces, duplicate vertices, and upside-down normals; textures are checked to exist, match the material, and not depend on licensing traps; and scale, units, and naming are normalized so the model drops straight into a scene without fixes.
License review
Every asset must be explicitly released under CC0 — public domain, no attribution, commercial use allowed, remixing allowed. Assets that only claim a permissive license with conditions are not included.
Nothing ships broken
If the preview rate limit makes a model load slowly, you'll still see its static thumbnail while the 3D view streams in. And if something does slip through, every asset page has a report button that emails the maintainers directly with the asset's name and URL pre-filled.
